Transfer Portal: What Center Options Remain?

UNC has missed on its big-man options thus far. 

North Carolina lost Armando Bacot and James Okonkwo this offseason, two of its three centers from last year. Junior Jalen Washington is the only player remaining who has played meaningful minutes at the five. The Tar Heels are bringing in 4-star James Brown as well. With options thin and depth needed, here are the top-five centers still in the transfer portal.

Who’s Left?

Great Osobor | Utah State– 6’8, 250-pound center who averaged 17.7 points, 9 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game this season. Although undersized, Osobor saw a big jump in production this season. He was an AP All-American Honorable Mention and the Mountain West Player of the Year.

Against TCU: 13 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists.

Against Purdue: 14 points, 6 rebounds, 2 blocks.

Baba Miller | Florida State– 6’11, 204 pounds from Spain. Miller is a talented big who can step out and hit jumpers. On the year, he averaged 7.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.4 assists. With room to grow, Miller has the tools to be a very good player but must stay out of foul trouble.

Moussa Cisse | Ole Miss– At 7’0, 230 pounds, this will be his second transfer. Cisse began his career at Oklahoma State before heading to Ole Miss. He was a 5-star prospect out of high school. Next season will be his fifth in college basketball. Cisse averaged 4.5 points and 4.6 rebounds for the Rebels last year.

Ugonna Onyenso | Kentucky– Another 7-footer, Onyenso is a productive defender around the rim. This season with Kentucky, in just 18.6 minutes per game, he averaged 3.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.8 blocks. When the Wildcats player North Carolina, Onyenso blocked three shots in nine minutes.

Against Oakland: 4 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 blocks in 23 minutes.

Kijani Wright | USC– At 6’9, 235 pounds, he saw 12 minutes per game this season. In that time, Wright averaged 3.9 points and 2.6 rebounds, making 58.4% of his attempts. He will be a junior next year.
