Cubs Top Prospect Has Huge Game

Owen Caissie, the Chicago Cubs’ No. 13-ranked prospect, hit three home runs for the Double-A Tennessee Smokies on Wednesday.

After a slow start, Caissie ripped a grand slam among his three homers to go along with six RBI.

It was his second career multi-home run game in the Minor Leagues.

Last season, with High-A South Bend, Caissie slashed .254/.349/.402 with 11 home runs and 58 RBI. The young power hitter rebounded quickly this season with Tennessee after some frustrating at-bats early in the season.

Every player – in the Minors or Major Leagues – goes through a slump at one stage or another.

Caissie, 20, was part of Team Canada in the World Baseball Classic.

While Pete Crow-Armstrong was the hot story in spring training regarding Cubs prospects, keep an eye out for Caissie. At such a young age, Caissie boasts so much potential both offensively and defensively.

If he starts to hit for power like he did in this three-homer performance, his rise to Wrigley Field likely will come sooner rather than later.

Caissie’s biggest obstacle is depth because the Cubs have plenty of options in the outfield and Seiya Suzuki also returning this weekend against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
