About an hour ago, the Phillies kicked off the final game of a four-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals. They’ve played the Cards well this year, and well enough to earn the almighty tie breaker in the event these two teams are tied for a Wild Card spot come playoff time.
On a positive note, to kick off the game and ruin no-run-first-inning bets everywhere, Rhys Hoskins hit a solo shot to take a 1-0 lead early in this one.
However, the path to the playoffs may have just gotten much tougher for the Phillies.
The Phillies seem to be seeing the ball well from Cardinals’ pitcher Miles Mikolas, putting some hard-hit balls into play. This trend continued when Bohm came up to the plate in the second, as Alec put a sizzler up the middle for a base hit.
Bohm was hustling out of the box and tried to stretch his base hit into a double. Bohm was ruled out despite looking safe, even after a replay challenge. However, when the third baseman slid into second head first, he appeared to have jammed his fingers/hand into the bag.

Even scarier, Bohm knew he was injured right away. He mouthed, “it’s broken.”

Yairo Munoz came in to replace Bohm as a pinch-runner and play third for the remainder of the game. Bohm was expected to be out of the next two games as well due to his vaccination status and the current rules in Canada.
Given this, Munoz will likely take the majority of the load in the coming days. Stott also has two appearances at third this season to help fill the need.
It’s tough to see Bohm go down, as he was improving tremendously in the field. Along with this, his bat will be tough to replace moving forward. Let’s just hope it isn’t as drastic as fellow infielder Jean Segura’s broken hand.
Once there’s an update, this article will be updated.
