NFL Analyst Reveals Bold Prediction For Vikings’ Sam Darnold
Sergio Estrada-USA TODAY Sports

Following veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins’ departure to the Atlanta Falcons in NFL free agency, the Minnesota Vikings have had to adopt a new strategy for the quarterback position this offseason, which appears to have been their intention from the start.

In response to the void created by Cousins’ exit, the team opted to acquire former No. 3 overall pick Sam Darnold, who served as Brock Purdy’s backup for the San Francisco 49ers last season.

While Darnold’s arrival represents a notable decline in quarterback talent compared to having Cousins at the helm in Minnesota, the Vikings appear satisfied with securing the services of the seasoned veteran, who has experienced various stints across the league throughout his career.

All indications suggest that the Vikings are leaning towards selecting a quarterback in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft, whether they decide to trade up for one of the premier prospects or wait to see who remains available when they’re on the clock with the No. 11 overall pick.

In the meantime, Colin Cowherd of FOX Sports speculates that the Vikings could spring some surprises next season, as reported by The Volume.

“I think Darnold has a chance to be the Baker [Mayfield] story next year. There’s just too many good players here.”

Despite boasting talent on both offense and defense, the Vikings face a significant question mark with Darnold, who has yet to demonstrate consistent success at the NFL level. Darnold has struggled in his previous stints with the New York Jets and Carolina Panthers before assuming a backup role in San Francisco.

Only time will reveal whether Sam Darnold can thrive with the Minnesota Vikings or if he finds himself embroiled in yet another quarterback controversy, competing for his position with an incoming rookie.
