Former Everton defender Conor Coady has advice for the club regarding a push up the Premier League table.

Many Toffees fans are eager for the club to make more signings to improve the quality of their first team squad.

Coady, who spent one year on loan at the club last term, believes that a redesign of the club's culture is more important.

"I actually think it has to be found from within. I will be completely honest, that's what I really believe," he told the BBC's The Monday Night Club podcast.

"I was part of a team at Wolves, and it's a lot different I understand, but we changed from being a really poor Championship side to getting promoted out of the Championship and doing really well in the Premier League and we changed a lot we brought a few players in but there was a culture change from within.

"I think that can be done at Everton as well, I really do believe that. How it's done, there are a lot more important and clever people than me, but we would all love to sit here now and say we have found this player, he is going to change everything, and I get that brings a new emphasis and dynamic at Goodison Park. But I get the feeling that people at Everton every transfer window, and we did it last year, we need this player, that player would be great, imagine if he comes in. It never happens.

"In January I don't think we signed one player last season, it was just Ellis [Simms] who came back on loan, so we were looking at it going 'that would be great' but I don't think that's going to happen. I'll be completely honest. I think it's finding it from within. Leaders within the team stepping up."
